  Summation Tutorial:

Setting Sumpref

Overview:

If you have an imaging version of Summation, it is important for the proper functioning of the imaging module that Sumpref is set correctly. Checking the Sumpref setting is quick and painless. In the case organizer window of Summation, click on 'Help' and then in the bottom third of that menu, choose 'Environment Information'. In the window that appears, near the bottom, you will see a field called 'Preference Environment Var'

If, like this one, your field says 'sumpref' then you are ready to take full advantage of Summation's imaging capabilities. If it has another value (like windir), then you will need to set it to sumpref.

Before you set sumpref, you will need to create a unique folder name for it, preferably off of the root of your directory. For instance, if your version of Summation is on the C drive, you would create a folder (that isn't a long filename) and the result would look like 'C:\ini'. Now find the imagesw.ini file in your Windows directory and move (not copy) it into your new folder (c:\ini).

Windows 95/98

Once you have created this folder, you will need to edit the autoexec.bat file. If you are running Windows 95/98, this file can be found off of the root of your C drive. Open autoexec.bat in any text editor and at the bottom of the file add the line:

set sumpref=C:\ini

This is assuming that the folder you created is called 'ini' if not, substitute the path and folder name you made earlier for the 'C:\ini'.

All that is left is for you to do is save and close all applications and restart your computer so the new settings take effect.

WindowsNT

In WindowsNT you set sumpref by right clicking on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and select properties. Then select the environment tab. You will then enter 'sumpref' in the variable field and the path to the new folder in the value field.

Select 'OK'. Save and close all applications and restart your computer so the new settings take effect.

Windows2000

If you are running Windows2000, right click on your 'My Computer' icon and select 'Properties'. Select the 'Advanced' tab and click on "Environment Variables'. Click once on any variable in the 'User Variables' section to highlight it and select 'New' (the one in the middle of the window, not the one at the bottom).

In the new window that appears, type in 'sumpref' in the text box after where it says 'Variable Name:' and type in 'C:\ini' (if that's the folder you created and moved imagesw.ini into earlier in this section) in the text box below
that.

Select 'OK'. Save and close all applications and restart your computer so the new settings take effect.
