So, your case is over, you no longer need it at your fingertips, but you don't want to just delete it either. An archive would be perfect and there are a couple of options for doing just that.
You may use any type of removeable media when archiving, ZIP or JAZZ drives or even a CD burner, although this may require a bit more effort than the other two. Some firms have a server set up specificaly for archiving, this is acceptable as well.
If you have CopyCase you can use it to archive your case. Use it just as you would for any other instance, either copying to removeable media or copying to to your archive server. Remember to change the Master Case Directory when copying to an archive server. Click here for a refresher on how to use CopyCase. If
you choose to burn your case onto a CD, then you will need to use the software for your CD burner. Summation cannot copy directly onto a CD-rom. (You may also want to read up on the read-only attribute here in the event that you need to access the case from the CD.)
If you do not have CopyCase, or do not wish to use it, you may archive your case using Windows Explorer. Locate your case folder in Explorer and copy the entire folder to your archive location. If you have images associated with your case and they are stored on your hard drive in a different location, you will want to locate and copy them to the same location of your case.
Once you have your case copied to the medium of your choice, it
is important that you take care to store the disks properly. You'lll
want to keep them in a cool, dark, safe place that you'll remember
later. After you've done this all that is left is to remove the
case from the case list. To do that, you need to delete it. If
you've never deleted a case before (or even if you have!) you
will want to review
our instructions for deleting a case. These instructions are
very important to ensure that you do not delete important data.
The most important thing to remember is to check the 6 paths in
'Case' --> 'Customize' and make sure they are not only filled
in, but pointing at what you think they are. If you say 'Yes'
to the prompt to delete all files associated with the case then
everything at the end of these paths will be deleted.
Well, the case has been tucked away safely and it turns out that you need to get into it again after all. Well, to do that all you need to do is follow the instructions for Copying Cases without using CopyCase.
