  Summation Tutorial:

Using CaseScan2 with Summation® Blaze LG Systems

Tutorial Overview:

Blaze® LG/iBlaze systems do not integrate with CaseScan2 in the same way Summtion Blaze 5.21 systems do. Some functionality will not be available, such as: launching CaseScan2 from within Summation, connecting CaseScan2 to a Summation case and committing images as well as support for all Blaze LG/iBlaze image formats. Although CaseScan2 can not be launched from Blaze LG/iBlaze, it can be used as a separate program to create DII files, which can be loaded into a Blaze LG/iBlaze system.

Note:

Since CaseScan2 only supports single-page, black-and-white, group 4 compression TIFF images, you will not be able to take advantage of other image formats (multi-page color TIFF, JPEG, BITMAP & PDF) supported by Blaze LG/iBlaze systems when using CaseScan2.

Tutorial Steps

Before you create the DII file in CaseScan2, you must organize your images into documents. For instructions on how to organize your documents, see the built-in CaseScan2 Online Help system.

Steps

  1. Launch CaseScan2.

  2. Select whether you want the image files stored in their current location or copied to a new location (designated by you).

  3. Select whether you want the image files stored in their current location or copied to a new location (designated by you).

The "Leave Image Files in Current Location” option allows you to create a DII file that references the images at their current location (and the information populated into the Imginfo table in the Summation database will look for the images in their current location).

The “Copy Image Files to Another Location” option allows you to copy images to a new location (designated by you) and create a DII file that references the images at the new location (and the information populated into the Imginfo table in the Summation database will look for the images in the new location).

The “Create Folders named after each Document and copy the Document’s Images into it” option is available when the “Copy Image Files to Another Location” option is selected. This option allows you to create subfolders for each document and copy the corresponding image files for each document into those subfolders.

  4. Click the “Export to DII” option.

  5. If you selected the “Leave Image Files in Current Location” option in Step 3, then skip to Step 6.

If you selected the “Copy Image Files to Another Location” option in Step 3, then you will be prompted to browse to a location to copy the image files to. Browse to a folder where you want to store the image files and click the “OK” button.

We do not recommend storing image on your workstation, as image files can be quite large and can use up a lot of disk space.

  6. Select the format you want to use to identify the path to the image directory. The option you select may represent either the entire path or a variable (@I) that stands for the Image Location set in the Case Customize dialog.

“Enter Image Location in Entirety” option will populate the entire path to the image directory (e.g. x\<image directory>) in the DefDir field in the Imginfo table.

“Map @I to Beginning of Current Location’s Path” option will populate “@I” in the DefDir field in the Imginfo table. “@I” stands for the path identified in the “Image Location” field under the “Case\Customize” dialog. Selecting this option facilitates moving images to new directories by allowing you to modify the “Image Location” in the “Case Customize” dialog for an entire case, as opposed to changing the data in the DefDir field in the Imginfo table for an entire database.

"If you select to take advantage of the “Map @I to Beginning of Current Location’s Path” option, then you can use the arrows in the lower portion of the dialog to toggle between “@I = none” to use the default Image Location (x:\<Summation Application Directory>\CaseData\Image), or “@I = <Selected Directory>” to populate the Image Location with the directory you specified in the image path you selected in Step 5.

  7. Select a location to save the DII file and click the “Save” button.

  8. For information on how to load a DII file into Summation, see the built-in Online Help system or the tutorial on our website titled Loading Images Using a DII File.
