  Summation Installation:

Upgrading the number of nodes for a concurrent-user installation of the Summation Blaze LG product family

  Overview

When you purchase more nodes (seats) for your concurrent-user edition of a Summation Blaze LG product (Blaze LG, LG Gold, or iBlaze), you will be given an installation code that reflects your new licensing information. Along with the new installation code, you will also need a copy of the Blaze LG server (not network-client) on your local network or hard-drive to complete the node upgrade process. This is available either on CD or downloaded from Summation's web site.

Note that upgrading the maximum concurrent users on Blaze LG Versions 1.x to 2.0 must be done on the network workstation from which the installation of the Blaze LG product was originally run. Version 2.5 or later of the Blaze LG product line can have the concurrent user limit upgraded from any workstation with network access to the Blaze LG product network program location.

If the existing server system is a pre-2.5.0 Blaze LG product (not including iBlaze 5.x) or a 2.5.0 or later system that was installed using the "Legacy Installation" option, it is recommended that you perform this upgrade process from the workstation that was originally used to install the server software. If the workstation that was originally used to install the pre-2.5.0 system is not available, then this upgrade process can be performed from any network-client workstation that has network access to the Summation server.

If the existing server system is a 2.5.x (or later) Blaze LG/iBlaze system, this upgrade process can be performed from any network-client workstation that has network access to the Summation server.

Upgrading your Blaze LG software with additional nodes also presents an excellent opportunity to update to the latest version number. Updating to the latest version makes the latest features and enhancements available to all your Blaze LG network users, but requires that each workstation receive an update as well as the server. Upgrading the maximum concurrent users requires only an update to the server installation.

During the node upgrade process, you may also consider upgrading your concurrent-user system to the latest available version, or to "trade up" from Blaze LG to LG Gold, or from LG Gold to iBlaze. If you decide to perform a version upgrade or a trade-up at the same time, the network-client software must be updated on each workstation to reflect the changes in the new version and/or trade-up. If the same version is used during the node upgrade process, the network-client software does not need to be updated on each workstation. Follow the appropriate steps below depending on your upgrade scenario.

Upgrade Steps:

Upgrade the number of nodes only OR upgrade the number of nodes and to a newer version of Summation:

  1. Place the installation CD in the CD drive of the network-client workstation (you can also double-click to run the installation executable file downloaded from Summation).
  2. When prompted in the Summation Blaze Setup Launcher window, select "Install a New System," and click "Next." (If the CD does not auto-run, browse to the CD and double-click the Launcher.exe file.)
  3. Enter the new installation code provided with your new licensing information, and click "Next."
  4. Read and accept the terms of the License Agreement, and click "Next."
  5. Enter the UNC path to your current shared network directory on the Summation server (for example, \\MyServer\Summation\iBlaze), or click the ellipsis button to browse to the shared network location on the Summation server. Click "Start."
  6. The Summation InstallShield Wizard prepares and installs the new license information and new system files (if you are upgrading to a newer version at the same time) into the shared network directory.
  7. When the final dialog box signals the completion of the installation process, click "OK."

If the installation CD used is the same version as your original concurrent-user system (if you are upgrading nodes only), existing network-client workstations do not need to be updated. However, you can start installing the network-client software on new workstations to use the increased number of nodes. To install the network-client software on new workstations, follow the instructions in the Installation Guide.

If the installation CD used is a later version than your original concurrent-user system (if you are upgrading nodes and the version), all existing network-client workstations should be updated by following the instructions in the Installation Guide.

Upgrade the number of nodes and trade up from LG/LG Gold to LG Gold/iBlaze:

  1. Place the installation CD in the CD drive of the network-client workstation (you can also double-click to run the installation executable file downloaded from Summation).
  2. When prompted in the Summation Blaze Setup Launcher window, select "Tradeup to Blaze LG Gold or iBlaze," and click "Next." (If the CD does not auto-run, browse to the CD and double-click the Launcher.exe file.)
  3. Enter the new installation code provided with the new licensing information. Click "Next."
  4. Read and accept the terms of the License Agreement, and click "Next."
  5. Enter the UNC path to your current shared network directory on the Summation server (for example, \\MyServer\Summation\iBlaze), or click the ellipsis button to browse to the shared network directory on the Summation server. Click "Start."
  6. The Summation InstallShield Wizard prepares and installs the new license information and added features to the current shared network directory.
