eDocs
is the new feature that handles electronic evidentiary documents.
Version 2 includes a new eDocs and eMail folder in
the Case Explorer. Within this folder are repositories for eDocs
(any Windows compatible file in its native format), eMail (from
either Outlook or Lotus Notes), and eMail attachments. Users can
search these folders along with other evidentiary information,
such as documents that originated in hard copy, transcripts, and
notes. Special icons in the search results screen identify the
search result hits from eDocs and eMail. Electronic documents
can be viewed either in their native file format or as a text
document.
E-Loader
Lite allows you to easily load e-mail (from Outlook or
Lotus Notes) and attachments into the document database for quick
searching and retrieval. Using the new E-form (created for the
viewing of electronic documents), you can see how many attachments
are associated with an e-mail and zoom into the documents themselves
or the record in the document database associated with the attachments.
Production
tools allow users to create automated, Bates numbered production
sets, and then print them with stamps and redactions. Moreover,
users can instantly retrieve a detailed production history for
each document in the database or production set. iBlaze users
can electronically archive production sets as searchable Briefcases
with permanently stamped and redacted images. Briefcases can then
be burned to a CD in a format which allows any user to view the
images and document abstract data via a Web browser (Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.5 & up) - enabling paperless document
productions.
Pleadings
Search Capability allows users to search internal key pleadings
along with other case components. Version 2 can point to a directory
of pleadings right on the firms network or a users
hard drive. These files, even though they are not "loaded"
into Summation, can be searched along with your other case data,
and the Pleadings hits appear in Summation's integrated search
results screen. Users can have multiple pleadings folders in their
Case Explorer. Also, users can zoom to the document in its native
file format from the Search results.
To accommodate the eDocs and eMail capabilities,
Summation now includes another form -- E-form
-- that has several additional fields, including a Bates Range
field, making it easier to track documents.
Quickly Build
Lookup tables in new cases by using the entries in existing
Lookup tables.
OCR Current
Document is the new iBlaze feature that allows you to instantly
OCR your images that are attached to a database record. ocrBases
up to 10 Gigabytes are now supported with Blaze® LG Gold and
iBlaze.
The new incremental
Blaze feature applies to ocrBase and eDocs. When you load
new documents, they are blazed and added to your current index
without requiring a re-index of all previously-loaded documents.
Browser Briefcase
allows users to export briefcased records and associated images
to an easily readable HTML format. Anyone, even non-Summation
users, can view the briefcase via a Web browser (Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5.5 & up). Great for paperless document productions
or sharing selected documents with peripheral litigation team
members.
Assign transcript
designations across multiple transcripts. With this feature,
you can create reports and exhibits (like Transcript Cites).
Edit Remote
(iBlaze only) and Companion
(iBlaze and LG Gold) databases. Previously, Remote and Companion
Databases were limited to searching, but beginning with Version
2, you can add to and edit these databases, provided you have
been granted the proper permissions. Databases hosted by CaseVault
can be edited using any version of Summation (LG, LG Gold and
iBlaze). Briefcases in iBlaze can be edited, as well.
The Companion
Connection button allows users to easily create connections
to other Summation databases and tables.
Import revised
or added field data into existing Core Database records.
Shared Evidence
Links is a new feature that offers the ability to create
links to transcripts, document images, Web pages, and any Windows
file that can be associated with an application in the Windows
File Types list. With Evidence Links, users can chain together
pieces of evidence in a case to preserve and illuminate combinations
of crucial information. Prior to Version 2, these links were private
and accessible only to the user who created them.
- Beginning with Version 2, transcript
and image links are shareable between version 2 users.
- Security can be set so that transcript
and image links cannot be modified by anyone other than the
author, unless permission is granted.
- Transcript links can now be color-coded.
View and
Print compound documents allows you to view and print documents
with their associated attachments, and view and print related
documents as well.
Several third-party
software programs now integrate with Summation:
- CaseSofts CaseMap 3.5 and TimeMap
2
- inDatas Trial Director 3.0 &
3.1
- IPROView and IPROScan
- Verdict Systems Sanction II

and other products, see the white papers on Summations website,

the companies listed.
Summations improved
integration with SQL Server gives users the option to take
advantage of the speed and flexibility of Microsoft's enterprise-level
SQL Server database.
Includes a new OCR
indexing option to ignore hyphens, replace hyphens with
a space, recognize hyphens, or all of the above. The OCR indexing
default has also been enhanced to ignore unrecognizable characters.
Concurrent with the release of version 2,
Summation is releasing the Summation
Web Server Console (SWSC), a software accessory for iBlaze.
With the SWSC, IT professionals can expeditiously take advantage
of Summation's integration with SQL server, iBlaze's remote connectivity,
and Summation's remote and companion database editing.
