From time-to-time customers ask if
the Summation Blaze LG / iBlaze network /concurrent-user edition
products must be installed on a server that:
- Is part of a Windows NT domain.
- Is dedicated to Summation only.
- Is running Windows server operating
system software (i.e. Windows NT / 2000 server).
Summation does not require any of
these pre-requisites, however for best performance it is advisable
to located your Summation network application and database on
a server that is dedicated as a file server and running a Windows
NT or Windows 2000 SERVER operating system. If you feel that you
can get an appropriate level of service from a non-dedicated server
machine, the solution below provides instructions on setting this
up.
- Choose the workstation computer that
will act as your designated "server". On the workstation
that will be acting as the "server", create the "share"
that will serve as your network application directory.
- Follow the network/concurrent-user
system directions (in the Summation Installation guide that
came with
your software) for the "server" installation. When
prompted by the installation wizard for
the network
application directory, browse to the designated "server"
share that will serve as your network application directory.
(Note: do NOT browse to the local file system i.e. c:\)
- If you want to run Blaze LG from the
"server" desktop computer, browse the network and
connect to your shared "server" directory (do NOT
browse to the local file system i.e. c:\). Locate the "Client
Setup" sub-directory and run "NetworkClientInstallation".
- If you want to run Blaze LG from other
desktop computers, browse the network and connect to your
shared
"server" directory. Locate the "Client Setup"
sub-directory and run "NetworkClientInstallation".
