Summation's line of award-winning litigation support software is successfully utilized every day by thousands of users on their stand-alone computer workstations, network-attached computer workstations, and laptop computer workstations. As part of Summation's commitment to supporting you the client the way you want in the most flexible manner possible, the Summation Blaze LG family of products supports a number of different configurations. In order to support remote users, many of Summation's clients choose to use their Summation product in conjunction with Citrix Systems' MetaFrame server. Using Summation's Blaze LG family of products on a Citrix MetaFrame server can provide a number of benefits to remote users who need access to Summation Blaze LG's powerful litigation
support features from a location that is "remote" from the firm's Local Area Network (LAN).
This document has been created to assist you with the installation of your Summation Blaze LG product in order to make it available to remote users connected to your Citrix MetaFrame server, and assumes a good working knowledge of Citrix MetaFrame server concepts, functionality, and administrative functions. This document assumes that you are working on a Citrix MetaFrame XP server, however many of the concepts, features, and tools are similar to the previous version of Citrix MetaFrame server.
Prerequisites:
| a. |
Citrix MetaFrame server software installed on a Windows NT / 2000 server with access to the Summation case data. |
| b. |
Summation Blaze LG, Blaze LG Gold, or iBlaze network/concurrent-user edition version 2.6. |
| c. |
Citrix MetaFrame client software installed on the clients accessing the Citrix MetaFrame server. |
| d. |
Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or later on the Citrix MetaFrame server. |
The installation procedure for installing the Network/Concurrent-user version of your Summation product is a two-step process.
Please take careful note of which computer is being referenced (workstation or server) as well as which step in the process you are working on (Summation server install or Summation client install).
The "Summation server installation" must be installed to a network location available to the Citrix server. This location can even be a shared directory hosted on the Citrix MetaFrame server. Note that the "Summation server installation" does not require Summation components to be registered on the server, the Summation server install is simply utilizing the shared directory on that server.
The "Summation client installation" setup must be run from the Add/Remove Programs applet on the Citrix MetaFrame server that is hosting your Summation network edition client. Note that the "Summation client installation" step registers several components on the Citrix MetaFrame server that are actually located in the Summation application directory on the network.
You will need access to both a separate workstation computer and to a shared directory located on the Summation server that will be hosting your Summation concurrent-user edition system. Summation DOES NOT recommend or support running the "Summation server installation" step directly from the server desktop. In addition, both computers (workstation and server) must be on the same Local Area Network (LAN).
If you are installing on a Novell Server, be sure to review the "Novell Issues" section in the standard product installation guide that came with the Summation product PRIOR to installation.
- Create a shared directory on your network Summation server if one is not already in place. If you do not have a shared directory available on your network, please see your server/network administrator for assistance. Note: It is acceptable to use a shared network directory located on the Citrix MetaFrame server.
- Locate the product installation CD-ROM and place it in the CD-ROM drive of your workstation computer.
- The setup program should
begin automatically. If the setup does not begin automatically, use the
Windows Explorer to navigate to your CD-ROM drive (typically drive D)
and double click on launcher.exe.
- The installation program will walk you through the following steps:
| a. |
Entering the installation
code |
| b. |
Displaying the license agreement. |
| c. |
Choosing your target directory (network share location where you wish to install your server components) this location should be a UNC path (i.e.
\\ServerName\ShareName\SummSubDir), NOT A LOCAL FILE SYSTEM LOCATION (i.e. NOT C:\Program Files). It is acceptable to use a shared network directory located on the Citrix MetaFrame server. |
| d. |
Choosing which program components to install. |
| e. |
Determining whether you have enough
available disk space. |
| f. |
Copying files to your shared network
location (UNC path or mapped drive). |
- The "Summation server installation" step is completed. In order to begin using the network/concurrent-user application, proceed to the "Summation client installation" procedures and run the "Summation client installation" steps from the Add/Remove programs applet on the Citrix MetaFrame server that is hosting the Summation application.
- While sitting at the Citrix MetaFrame server, open the Control Panel and double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. From within the Add/Remove Programs applet, choose to "Add New Programs" and click the "CD or Floppy" button. Navigate to the location where you chose to install the client files. The default location is the "Client Setup" folder located in the Summation application directory (i.e. \\SummationServer\ShareName\SummSubDir\Client Setup).

- Double-click on "Network Client Installation".
- The installation program will walk you through the following steps:
| a. |
Displaying the license agreement. |
| b. |
Creating a Windows program group. |
| c. |
Copying files to your system. |
| d. |
Choosing which program components to install. Installing MDAC 2.6 (if necessary).
Note: If MDAC 2.6 was not already installed on your machine, you may be asked to re-boot your system upon completion. |
| e. |
Registering newly installed files. |
Notes on color palettes and Publishing the Summation network client application:
- Citrix server provides an option to limit the color palette of your Citrix clients to 256 colors. If you choose this option, two items will need to be adjusted in Summation to accommodate this limitation:
| a. |
In the shared Summation application network directory, rename the "UI" sub-directory (i.e. rename it "UI_Old). This will force Summation to use less color-intensive icons. |
| b. |
In the shared Summation application network directory, edit the SWADMIN.INI file by adding the following lines:
[user info]
No256ColorMSG=Yes
|
- Prior to publishing the application through Citrix MetaFrame server, you MUST have completed the "Client Installation Procedure" above.
- During the publishing process, you will be asked to specify the Command Line and Working directory. The command line should point to the SW32.exe file located on the shared application directory (See example below), and the working directory should be the path to the shared application directory.
|
When publishing Summation as a Citrix published application, you MUST be consistent in using network paths and mapped drives! Although Summation highly recommends using UNC paths rather than mapped drives, it is possible to use mapped drives. However if mapped drives are used in the installation process, they MUST be used consistently through the entire process.
For example
If the Summation SERVER components were installed to S:\iBlaze, and \\SummServer\SummShare\ is the UNC equivalent to S:\ the S drive must be used consistently through the entire process.
- The network-client setup MUST be run from the S drive (i.e. S:\iBlaze\Client Setup\Setup.exe).
- When hosting Summation as a Citrix published application, the path to the published application MUST refer to the mapped drive (i.e. the Command Line in the Specify what to Publish dialog in the Citrix admin console would be S:\iBlaze\SW32.exe).
- The Citrix administrator MUST configure Citrix server to automatically map the S drive when the Citrix users log on to Citrix.
These additional steps are, of course, unnecessary if the Summation server files are installed to a UNC path rather than a mapped drive as originally recommended.
