Installing Summation Blaze
and Summation Platinum Litigation Suite follow essentially the
same procedure, with the additional step of connecting to existing
network cases in the case of the Platinum edition. First time
users will receive a full install, while veteran Summation users
will receive an upgrade. In both cases, you will receive a CD-ROM.
Take note of the Serial Code, a five-digit number followed by
a letter, found on the sleeve of the CD-ROM. You may be asked
to enter it the first time you run Summation.
- Assemble the CD-ROM, floppy disk, and
Serial Code of your Platinum Suite.
- Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive
and the floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
- The InstallShield will automatically
set up the installation. If it does not, use Windows Explorer
or File Manager to browse to the CD-ROM drive and double-click
on the file entitled SETUP.EXE.
- Follow the steps as explained in the
install wizard. Users upgrading to Platinum take note that you
may have to browse to your existing Summation directory.
When the install is complete, run Summation.
You may be asked to enter your Serial Code. Type the five-digit
number and letter into the box provided. You are ready to use
Summation's Platinum Litigation Suite. If you are running under
Windows NT/2000, you need to right click on the shortcut and select
Properties/Shortcut and check Run In Own Memory Space.
The Platinum suite has the ability to connect
to cases being run on a network version of Summation. You will
note that case list of the Platinum edition contains two new buttons:
Local Cases and Network Cases. These two buttons provide you with
the special ability to connect to more than one list of cases.
Platinum must be installed locally, but if you want to use it
to access your cases on the network, this feature is invaluable.
To connect with network cases:
- Access the case list by either:
- Selecting Open from the Case menu; or
- Clicking on the file drawer icon on your
toolbar; or
- Pressing CTRL+O at the Main - Case Folder
window.
- The Case Selection dialog
appears. Click on the Network Cases button.
- If this is the first time you are connecting
to your network cases, a dialog will appear asking you if you
would like to search for your network version of Summation Blaze.
(Once you have selected a network version of Summation, it will
automatically load its case list when you click on Network Cases.)
Click on Yes.
- From the Choose a Directory Where a
SumCase Database is Found dialog, browse to the program directory
of your network version of Summation.
- Click on OK. The network version of Summation's
case list is loaded. The list of cases (local or network) is
indicated at the top of the case list. To select another network
case list, click on the button containing the ellipsis (. .
.) and follow the above steps.
