This procedure will enable the user to select a custom form, or set of custom forms, that will become available whenever a new case is created. Following these steps
will affect all users starting new cases, so please inform the Network Supervisor and all necessary personnel.
Warnings:
- Please inform all users to refrain from creating new cases during this procedure.
- DO NOT DELETE ANY DEFAULT SUMMATION FILES! RENAME ONLY!
- Write down directory paths and database names.
- Please back up your Summation case directory (where the case folders are stored) before proceeding.
- On all versions of Summation prior to 5.0, three files with the prefix <database name> and extension 1.rbf, 2.rbf, 3.rbf and one <database name>.frm
file(Form File) make up a Summation database. On version 5.0 and beyond the Summation database still consists of four files. The <database name>.frm file stays the same, but the
extension on the database files are now <database name> .se1,.se2,.se3. By looking at the database file extension in Windows Explorer it can be determined if the database is an old
style database (Prior to 5.0) or a new style database. (After 5.0)
Note: Versions of Summation prior to 4.5 will not have a .frm file.
- On the local c:\ drive make a directory called dbhold, through Windows Explorer.
- Run Summation and load the case with the database and forms that will become the programs default. Check, Pack, and Blaze the database. Please understand that
all forms and tables connected to this database will become the default after we complete this procedure.
- Go to Options-Utilities-Clone Database. On the Database to clone TO: line type c:\dbhold\stddb. Decide whether or not you wish to copy over look-up table information.
Upon completion of this procedure, enter Windows Explorer and check the dbhold directory for the three database files and the one .frm file.
- Stay in Explorer. Go to the Summation program directory (Where the program files reside) and look for three files named STDDB with either the .rbf or .se extension.
Change the extension to .odb (or in the case of the new style databases, .ol1, .ol2 and .ol3). Look for a file named STDDB.frm and change this extension to .ofm.
- Go to the dbhold directory and copy the cloned database files into the Summation program directory.
- Open Summation and go to Case-Open and choose New Case. After the new case is created, go to File-Select Form and check for the customized form.
Note: If the operating system is in the 3.x series, use File Manager to copy, re-name, and manipulate files instead of Windows Explorer.
Each step detailed above needs to be followed, otherwise several problems may surface at a later date.
